Yassin
An internationally-exhibited professional painter from Egypt.
My Story
When I began painting in prison, and managed to smuggle my works out in various ways through visitors, because art is prohibited in prison. The paintings were kept in my house until I got out of prison on September 21st, 2018. I’ve tried to publish my work and to show it in exhibitions so that people can see the truth of what life is like in prison.
Now I’m more interested now is how art makes you the person that you are – when you paint or when you admire art. I want to know how art starts to speak from within… how art expresses the deep core…. how art translates the messages…. how art works when words fail… and a lot more – for art was when languages were naught. And even today, a picture is worth a thousand social media posts and a million words.
